The Mae showing is 2 kilometres southwest of Maeford Lake, 60 kilometres northeast of Likely. Access is provided via Weldwood’s 8400 logging road which bisects the property.

The area is underlain by a northwest dipping succession of garnet schist, black phyllite, calcsilicate gneiss and minor marble and amphibolite of the Cambrian Downey succession (Snowshoe Group). Immediately to the north, this succession is overlain by a thick limestone-marble unit of the Permian Bralco succession (Snowshoe Group). Late northwest trending faults, with displacements of a few tens of metres, cut these units. The regional metamorphic grade is high, with garnets and staurolites developed in pelitic units and amphibole in calcsilicates and mafic metavolcanics.

The showing comprises a number of layers of stratabound lead-zinc-copper mineralization (galena-sphalerite-chalcopyrite) in the calcsilicate-amphibolite assemblage. Mineralization in the first anomalous zone comprises dispersed sulphides in thin, rusty weathering, fine grained quartz-garnet amphibolite layers. The amphibolites are interlayered with coarse grained garnet-biotite schist, minor calcsilicate gneiss and thin impure marble layers. Pyrite (and marcasite) occurs in late veinlets and replacing pyrrhotite.

The second anomalous zone, on the slopes above the first zone, is underlain mainly by the Bralco limestone. The only discovered mineralization is minor galena in a sparry dolomite-filled fracture within the marble.

These showings and host succession have similarities with manganese-rich, stratabound lead-zinc showings of the Bend prospect (083D 001) north of Golden. They also have similarities with volcanogenic sulphide deposits, in particular Besshi-type deposits. These include a mixed mafic volcanic?/metasedimentary host succession and a copper, zinc and lead metal content.

The Mae claims were staked by Cominco Ltd. during September 1988 following the discovery of sulphide-bearing float and a follow-up soil geochemical survey. In 1989, Cominco conducted 25 line-kilometres of grid soil sampling (1020 soils) which outlined 3 broad coincident lead/zinc anomalies; despite limited outcrop, mineralization was discovered in two of the anomalous zones. In 1991, Cominco constructed 1.2 kilometres of access road from the main logging road to the 1554 metre elevation in the center of the property. Subsequently 1:2500 scale mapping and grid geochemistry was conducted over a 1.8 by 1.0 kilometre area above the 1524 metre contour level.
